Day three of the fourth Ashes Test concluded with Australia scoring 113-4 in their second innings on Friday at Old Trafford, Manchester.

The Aussies still trail by 162 runs and will need a massive recovery to make a comeback in the match.

Marnus Labuschagne (44) and Mitchell Marsh (1) will resume the batting for visitors on day four.

Australia had to face trouble from the start of their inning as Mark Wood, using his sheer pace, removed Usman Khawaja for just 18 runs.

The Aussies tried to take control of the situation but failed once again as Chris Woakes removed David Warner for just 28 runs.

After Warner’s wicket, Australia got a bit of a break with Steve Smith and Labuschange forming a 37-run stand but that could not last for long. Wood, once again, removed Smith — completing his 100th Test wicket — with a tricky bouncer for just 17.

Just after Smith’s wicket, Wood struck once again as he bamboozled Travis Head with his pace and forced the left-handed batter to connect with the ball.

Labuschagne stood till the end of the day playing valiantly, staying in front of the English pace factory.

Earlier on day three, England resumed their batting at 384-4.

Soon after Ben Stokes lost his wicket after completing his fifty, Jonny Bairstow came in.

Bairstow, having no mercy on the Australian bowlers, assaulted the visitors with his unbeaten 99 off 81 including 10 fours and four sixes, but couldn’t complete his well-deserved century as James Anderson was out lbw for five runs.

With Anderson’s wicket, England were all-out for 592, with a staggering 275-run lead.

Earlier on day two, Zak Crawley smashed Australian bowlers to all parts of the ground — taking BazBall to the whole new next level — as the right-handed batter scored 189 off 182 with 24 boundaries.

Meanwhile, Root — who recently completed 11,000 Test runs — scored 84 off just 95 deliveries and then lost his wicket to Josh Hazlewood’s ripper.

While Australia were all-out for 317 runs in their first inning.
